Today's spotlight: “quirze”
Keep reading for an incredible interview with the Spanish Artist..👇🏼

What made you stick to your real name (quirze) as your artist identity ?
- “I always went by quirze because i'm proud of my name and who i am.
It's a difficult name to say even if you are from where i am from but i've grown to like myself because there's simply no other way. The meaning and lore behind it is perfect too.”
When did the passion and appreciation for art first begin ?
- “Ever since I was a kid to be honest. I always liked art in general.
Anything that has an expressive medium feels welcoming to me. Things that people would look at and tell you to get a real job instead.”

How did you end up finding your own style of art ?
- “Through my naiveness really. I always get inspired by the most random things. My style is cheap but as long as you have two eyes and a sense of composition it can belong in a fancy space. That's not the objective though but I'd like to think that you don't need the technical skill to portray who you are. Narrative prevails over everything. The style comes out naturally. You can't help it but to do what your body wants.”
If you could work together with one artist from the past who would it be ?
- “Either Goya or Yves Tanguy. I feel like Yves and I could get along well.
With Goya, I would just sit there and watch him, I would not dare speaking to him before properly reading the room.”

The weekly poem from - Luca Ponsato
“Never Ending”
A Poem Inspired by the piece:
“come to terms”
The argument always started
But felt like it didn’t end
I wrote out hateful messages
In my mind
But never chose to send
I changed the way I see myself
Or at least I can say I tried
And when I face the last day here
It will be the first time I have died

Where do you gain most of your inspiration from ?
- “Music is the fuel mostly. But my inspiration has always been from magazines and books (even though I rarely read them). Images in general. It hits me when I see something with potential. I trust my gut a lot.”
What does creating art mean to you ?
- “It's a self expression thing I guess. I don't think about it too much. I just do what I love the most. I feed on chaos but silence as well. I'm obsessed with juxtapositions. It's either black or white. I'm bad at managing and keeping track. Art is a free for all to me and at the same time pure therapy.”

Who are your role models | people you are looking up to ?
- “I don't have people that I really look up to but I do get inspired by many. Carles Canut, Courage the Dog, Sade (he was messed up in the head but I’ve always found him interesting), Abloh, Max Miedinger, Albert Serra, Danny Boyle, Tom Sachs etc. I don't know much about these people|characters but the less I know the better. My ignorance towards some things boosts up my creativity and I intend to keep it this way.”
What made you choose this medium of creating and publishing art ?
- “Cheap paper and a scanner have been with me for the longest. I’ve rarely ever used anything expensive or niche in terms of art supplies. My inspiration for fast paced things led me to print, scan, destroy, tape it together again, burn it, until it makes sense to me. The process is messy. But I trust it because the final result is what really matters.”

What are some other passions you have other than art, if any ?
- “I like the nature. I don't even know what passions I’ve got other than messing around basically. But that's all inside my art I guess. Caffeine and fruits, I love that too.”
What’s next for quirze ?
- “Keep doing me and experimenting. I really don’t know what's going to happen. I'm just really excited to create more and show you more. I want to pursue art, but life will tell. Even if bad times were to come back I'll still keep creating whatever I want. We are artists so emotions tend to become narrative and that's what we do.”
